On July 1, the Metropolis of Montpellier celebrated the 10th anniversary of its agroecological and food policy. To mark the occasion, its vice-president, Isabelle Touzard, invited the partners who have worked together to develop this innovative public initiative: agricultural organisations, consumer and food aid associations, the Montpellier wholesale food market, local authorities, Metropolis support services, researchers and teachers.
Around a hundred representatives of these partners were on hand to share the history of this policy and reaffirm its objectives :
i) shaping an agro-ecological territory,
ii) structuring a sustainable and resilient food supply,
iii) providing access to quality food for all,
iv) sharing knowledge, promoting innovation and mobilizing citizens,
v) building a shared governance.
The event, supported by the European SWITCH project, was an opportunity to award the “fork” prize to Montpellier’s best recipes incorporating local legumes.
A large-scale fresco was also created to represent the trajectory and the values of this pioneering policy in France and Europe.
