Cagliari and Sardinia region
Italy
Sardinia is a rural region characterised by small-scale agriculture and predominantly extensive livestock farming with a low environmental impact. The livestock sector is mainly represented by sheep and goats breeding, while the main extensive crops are cereals and forage, and among tree crops grapevine and olive. Sardinia includes one of the world’s five blue zones with a high concentration of centenarians, attributed to socio-cultural, environmental, and behavioral factors related to diets. The Food Hub seeks to promote healthy and sustainable diets while reinforcing Sardinia’s identity in the Mediterranean and European food communities. LAORE Sardinia and CMCC coordinate activities to introduce short-chain and quality products in public catering, match demand and supply of local products, and highlight their sustainability for consumers.
