SWITCH DataLake

What is SWITCH

DataLake?

SWITCH DataLake integrates nutrition and sustainability data from six city-region Food HUBs established under the European SWITCH project. The Data Lake serves as a comprehensive platform, combining diverse datasets such as regional food offerings, food indicators, real-time sales data, and citizen behavior, along with physical, sociocultural, and economic variables. This unified data repository enables the application of Machine Learning techniques to generate scenarios and evaluate innovative actions, providing policymakers with valuable insights into agribusiness sustainability.

The Data Lake consists of three main components:

Data Archive

A data archive is a long-term storage system that organizes and preserves data for future access when needed.

Data Analytics

Data analytics is the process of examining data to uncover patterns, trends, and insights. This involves using tools and techniques to analyze data in order to make better decisions, solve problems, or predict future outcomes. In this context, machine learning algorithms will be applied to discover previously unknown patterns.

Data Catalog

A data catalog is a tool or system that organizes and manages metadata (information about data). It helps users easily find and understand the data available to them by providing descriptions, classifications, and other useful details about the data stored in the system. These datasets will be published on the European Open Data Portal to share information with other communities.

Access to the DataLake is currently only allowed for consortium members to upload data specific to the project activities. In the next phases of the project, the processed data contained in the Data Catalog will be made publicly accessible and published on the European Open Data Portal.
